DKM Water Conservation and Demand Management Strategy Non-Revenue Water Reduction

The Dawid Kruiper Council has decided (Special Council Decision 7/10/2024) to implement a Water Conservation and Demand Management Strategy (WCDMS). This entails on-going initiatives to reduce water losses, monitor and control the current and future water demand. Several programmes are implemented to support the strategy and secure water for the broader DKM communities;

• Household meter replacement: 5544 meters replaced to date – Upington,

Rietfontein,Lv Weg, Loubos, Philandersbron.

• Bulk meter replacement: more than 100 bulk consumers – Upington.

• Grass removal from road islands.

• Raw water connections to parks.

• Continuous improvement on pipe break turnaround time.

• Household leak repairs and community awareness through partnerships with the

COGTA, The National Business Initiative, and PEPSICO – Rietfontein.

• Household and reticulation leak repairs, community awareness, bulk meter replacement, network data loggers installation and pressure investigations through partnerships with the DWS and the Ministry of Environment of Denmark - Rietfontein, Klein Mier, Groot Mier, Philandersbron, Askham, Swartkopdam,Raaswater, Leseding, Louisvale Dorp, Ntsikelelo, Leerkrans, Karos, Lambrechtsdrift and Upington.
