Louisvale Weg Sewerage Treatment Plant Outflow

In response to the poster of 08 September 2026 circulating on Social Media. The Louisvale Weg sewerage treatment is fully functional and working according to the initial design, which includes a final overflow of treated effluent. The misinformation circulating that the plant is “broken” is not factual. The Louisvale Weg sewerage treatment plant does not have a broken dam, nor releasing raw sewerage in the community as per the information circulating. The process of the plant allows for an overflow of the treated effluent into the natural storm water area, where it is then conveyed to the river.

The plant is located in a higher position than the community and results in the final treated effluent running through the natural storm water system located within the community.

A buffer berm was temporarily constructed to assist controlling the treated effluent flow during the winter period when evaporation is lower compared to summer months. More effluent is therefore visible during the winter period. This buffer berm creates additional surface area for evaporation. This berm area is temporary and will be removed and rehabilitated once the larger project is implemented.

The plant was upgraded in 2015 and due to the growth of the community, further upgrades are required to handle additional flows. The DKM is currently busy completing further investigations and funding requests to construct a pipeline for the treated effluent to the river.

The Municipality has noted a significant high usage of water in the area which triggers more effluent produced. Furthermore, manhole, air valves, pump station cable theft and vandalism including foreign materials within the sewer network was found. This contributed to localised spillage incident which were addressed without delay in June and August 2026.
