Water Preventative Maintenance May-August 2026

As part of the DKM’s preventative maintenance program, teams worked across the water

treatment plants and reservoirs to service key infrastructure. During the process a full

inspection of filter nozzles was carried out to identify blockages and damage. Any faulty

nozzles were replaced on the spot. The team also conducted refilling and levelling of filter

sand to restore optimal filtration capacity.

Sedimentation tanks and reservoirs were taken offline, internal surfaces were scrubbed and

disinfected, while valves, overflow pipes, and access hatches were inspected. After refilling,

water samples were taken to confirm compliance with SANS 241:2015 drinking water

standards.

  • Total number of reservoirs cleaned (raw and drinking): 19 – Kalksloot, Melkstroom,

Groot Mier, Klein Mier, Philandersbron, Rietfontein, Central Upington, Lv Dorp,

-Total number of sedimentation tanks cleaned: 48 x8 treatment plants.

DKM remains committed to ensure the continued delivery of safe drinking water to our
